Ski Challenge, the thrilling esports game developed by Greentube, has taken the sports gaming world by storm since its official launch just a few months ago.
With its unprecedented popularity, NOVOMATIC Digital Gaming and Entertainment Division, in collaboration with renowned ski associations and co-shareholders from Austria (ÖSV), Switzerland (Swiss-Ski), and Germany (DSV), is preparing an exciting innovation for ski and gaming enthusiasts alike: the highly anticipated Nations Cup, scheduled to commence in autumn 2023.
As a tribute to Greentube's inaugural game release, Ski Challenge enjoyed a remarkably successful first season, amassing over half a million downloads on iOS and Android since its October 2022 debut.
The game's appeal extends beyond its dedicated player base, as it has also attracted significant global brand partnerships, solidifying its position as a captivating platform for both players and sponsors.
Building upon the game's competitive nature, Greentube and the three prestigious ski associations (ÖSV, Swiss-Ski, and DSV) have united as shareholders to introduce an exhilarating tournament series: the Ski Challenge Nations Cup.
This eagerly anticipated competition invites players to represent their countries, vying for honor, glory, and enticing prizes through multiple qualifying rounds and the ultimate tournament phase.
Notably, players who qualify for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will have the opportunity to compete as official national teams under their respective ski associations.
The tournament events will run parallel to real Ski World Cup events, allowing Ski Challenge to bridge the gap between the virtual and physical skiing worlds, further enhancing its esports concept.
Michael Bauer, Greentube's CFO/CGO, expressed his excitement, stating, "We are thrilled to introduce several new teams to the game as part of the upcoming Ski Challenge Nations Cup update. These prestigious federations bring an added level of legitimacy to the game, and we firmly believe that our passionate and loyal player base will be delighted with these exciting additions as Ski Challenge continues to establish itself as a premier esports title."
Diego Züger, CEO Commercial Swiss-Ski, emphasized the significance of this development, saying, "This presents a tremendous opportunity for skiing. The establishment of the Nations Cup and entry into esports will inspire new target groups and drive the overall growth of skiing. The successful collaboration between Ski Austria, the German Ski Association, Greentube, and Swiss-Ski demonstrates the tremendous potential that can be unlocked through effective partnerships."
Stefan Schwarzbach, Board of Communication at the German Ski Association, added, "With the Nations Cup, our goal as ski associations is to establish a direct connection between virtual skiing and our top athletes in the real world. Ski Challenge has become an engaging communication platform, igniting the passion for skiing among children and young people. In the long run, we hope that our ski clubs and associations will also reap the benefits of this collaboration."
Christian Scherer, Secretary General of the Austrian Ski Association, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "We are incredibly excited to launch this virtual tournament series, which promises to revolutionize the world of skiing and bring nations together. This initiative expands the global reach and fuels the competitive spirit of skiers worldwide. Undoubtedly, it stands as one of the most exhilarating announcements of 2023, as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of skiing and create an unforgettable experience for all participants."
