Esports Entertainment Group, Inc. a leading global iGaming company and provider of business-to-business (B2B) esports content and solutions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Damian Mathews as its new Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Mathews has been a member of the company's board of directors since June 2020.
Alex Igelman, Chief Executive Officer of Esports Entertainment Group, expressed his delight with the appointment, stating, "We are delighted to have Damian Mathews rejoin the senior management team as Chief Operating Officer of Esports Entertainment Group. Damian previously held the positions of Chief Financial Officer from April 2022 and subsequently Chief Operating Officer in June 2022, until his resignation in December 2022. Despite his departure from those roles, he remained a dedicated member of the board, where he believed he could make the greatest impact.
During his previous tenure as COO/CFO, he played a crucial role in streamlining the company's operations and advocating for important changes within the organization. Importantly, his decision to rejoin the team reflects his complete alignment with the company's new direction and the promising future of the esports industry. Furthermore, he has the full support of the board, which believes that his experience in global business operations and the gaming industry makes him ideally qualified to help lead the company in our next phase of growth, with a strong focus on profitability and driving shareholder value."
Mr. Mathews shared his enthusiasm for returning to the executive team, stating, "I am excited to rejoin the executive team at Esports Entertainment Group. Since leaving my position as the company's CFO/COO in December and continuing in my role as a board member, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable turnaround led by Alex in just a few short months since he joined the company.

With over 25 years of experience in senior finance positions in investment management, banking, and accounting, Mr. Mathews brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
Previously, he served as Group Chief Operating Officer for Auckland Real Estate and as CFO of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Investment Company, a sovereign wealth fund-owned investment company, from 2014 to 2020. He also held senior management positions at Commonwealth Bank of Australia Group and various roles at ABN Amro bank and Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
Mr. Mathews holds a joint honors undergraduate degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol in the UK and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
