Nevis Announces Launch Of New, Tier-1 iGaming License

The Caribbean island of Nevis is shaking up the global iGaming and gambling landscape with the introduction of the new, Tier-1 Nevis Online Gaming License, following the passage of the Nevis Online Gaming Bill 2025 on 29 April 2025.

This brand new framework puts Nevis on the map as a premier, low-tax, gold standard jurisdiction for online gambling and casino operators.

Building on some 40 years of financial services industry, combined with drawing on the frameworks of established iGaming jurisdictions, while leveraging a competitive price point, all eyes are on Nevis. The new license is expected to attract a plethora of operators to the island, diversifying its economy away from tourism and towards this burgeoning and lucrative sector.

Ron Mendelson at Fast Offshore commented that the introduction of the Nevis license fills a crucial niche in the sector. “It balances a Tier-1 license and all the benefits it brings, with a range of benefits that will really drive forward the success and profitability of operators. Its competitive licensing fees combined with an efficient and streamlined onboarding process, robust due diligence, and a solid licensing process will create both demand and stability.”

The Nevis Online Gaming Bill 2025, introduced by Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Mark Brantley in March 2025, marks a strategic shift for the island’s tourism-driven economy.

Designed to diversify revenue streams, attract foreign investment, and bolster the regulatory services sector, the bill positions Nevis as a competitive player alongside established iGaming hubs like Malta and the Isle of Man.

“In Nevis, we have been dependent on tourism as the mainstay for a very long time. It is now time for us to step out into the world to create new mechanisms, new platforms, and new areas of growth to try at diversifying our local economy and ensure greater resilience and sustainability for our people,” said Brantley.

A Gold-Standard License with Global Appeal

The Nevis iGaming License is carefully designed to meet the needs of operators seeking credibility, affordability, and compliance in a rapidly evolving and increasingly competitive industry. Fully compliant with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Nevis’s “white list” status assures operators and partners of its commitment to combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and other forms of illicit activities.

This level of compliance enhances operator credibility, ensuring the license is recognised by banks, payment providers, and third parties worldwide. This, as we well know, turns into more revenue for operators.

Drawing inspiration from Tier-1 jurisdictions like Malta and the Isle of Man, Nevis aims to reach the gold standard while maintaining competitive pricing. “Through effective licensing, regulation, and fees, the Bill will position Nevis as a leading, safe, and well-regulated online gaming market,” Brantley said.

A Robust and Modern Framework

The Nevis iGaming framework draws on a mix of proven practices, combined with innovative solutions, ensuring a streamlined yet stringent licensing process. Operators are required to submit comprehensive documentation, including Know Your Customer (KYC), Due Diligence (DD), corporate and financial records, and proof of technical and security preparedness. A dedicated regulator, supported by a team of skilled professionals, will evaluate applications and enforce compliance, ensuring only qualified entities receive approval to operate.

Consumer protection and responsible gaming are at the core of the framework. Licensed operators must implement ethical advertising, provide dispute resolution mechanisms, avoid targeting minors, and offer self-regulation tools to promote responsible gambling. The regulator is in charge of investigating all complaints and issue directives, with penalties for non-compliance.

Leveraging 40 Years of Financial Expertise

Nevis’s entry into iGaming is bolstered by its 40-year history in financial services, including offshore banking, insurance, and trusts. This expertise ensures compliance with international best practices and provides a wealth of regulatory knowledge. As a FATF-compliant jurisdiction, Nevis brings significant credibility to its iGaming sector, making it an attractive hub for operators.

The island’s infrastructure further supports its iGaming ambitions. Modern transport links, good local infrastructure, and anEnglish-speaking workforce, everything is in place for operators. In addition, the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$) is pegged to the US dollar, offering stability and accessibility.

Economic Diversification and Global Impact

The Nevis iGaming License is a cornerstone of the island’s economic diversification strategy. By tapping into the multi-billion-dollar iGaming industry, Nevis aims to generate revenue through licensing fees, renewals, and penalties, supporting government initiatives and fostering growth. The license also positions Nevis as a global leader, attracting foreign investment and creating opportunities for local professionals in regulatory and technical fields.

“Nevis is ready to compete on the world stage,” said Mendelson. “This license is a testament to innovation, integrity, and excellence, offering operators a trusted platform to thrive in a competitive market.”
